- Evidence: 3 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
10 The Apostles is one of the row of white cottages at Catacol, on the quiet north-west shoulder of Arran, and it is one of the better thought-out dog cottages on the island. The clearest sign of that is the stair gate the owners supply, so a dog can be kept downstairs overnight without anyone improvising with a chair.
Outside, the front garden is long, enclosed and well kept, and the road beyond it carries almost no traffic, so there is a real buffer between the door and anything moving. The living room looks straight out over the water. Walking is the point of the place: coastal, hill and riverside routes all start within a few minutes, there is a beach within easy reach, and dog owners describe it as somewhere you can walk from the door for a week without repeating yourself. Wildlife is part of the appeal, with red squirrels, red deer, seals and eagles all regularly seen from the cottage and the shore.
Inside it is cosy and well kitted out for a longer stay, and reviewers consistently describe it as spotless, which is worth saying about a cottage that takes dogs. The owners are friendly and quick to act on anything that goes wrong.
The trade-off is remoteness. The main shopping is in Brodick, roughly a 35-minute drive, with only a small shop at Pirnmill about five miles down the road, so plan a big supermarket run before you arrive. The television is small, which matters more on a wet week than it sounds. Up to two dogs can be booked. No pet charge is published, so confirm any fee when you book.
At 4.4 out of 5, this suits dog owners who want walking, quiet and sea views, and who are happy to trade convenience for them.
