The garden is fully enclosed, and dog owners consistently describe it as safe and secure, so dogs can be let out while you sit around the kitchen table.
Up to two pets can stay, and the owners have thought about them: food and water bowls and a dog blanket are provided, and there is a garden hose for rinsing off sandy or muddy paws. The welcome extends to people too, with flowers in the rooms, home baking on arrival and a kitchen stocked with basics, along with books, games and jigsaws.
Walks start from the door along lanes and footpaths around the Helford, and there is a free dog-walking field at the top of the village. The village pub is a couple of minutes' walk away, though evening food has been limited to Fridays and Saturdays since the community took it over, and a fish and chip van calls weekly.
