How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 82 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.4/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
8 Margaret Road is a roomy apartment a few streets back from the seafront in Whitley Bay, and the coast is the whole argument for bringing a dog here. Guests travelling with pets land on the same two points: the beach and the promenade are a short, flat walk away, and the flat is spacious enough that a dog is not permanently underfoot. One party liked it enough to joke that the only improvement would be a direct tunnel to the sand.
The listing carries no pet terms - no fee, no weight limit, no cap on numbers - so agree the details with the owner when you book. Beaches along this stretch of coast carry seasonal dog restrictions on their main bathing sections through the summer, so check the signs at the access point rather than assuming.
Value is the other consistent theme. For what it costs, the space and the location are hard to fault, and the transport links make it easy to spend a day in Newcastle and come back to the sea. The hosts are responsive and easy to deal with.
Against that, the flat is tired in places and the housekeeping is not reliable. Dog hair from earlier stays has transferred onto guests' belongings, and more than one visitor has said the vacuuming needs to be better - if your dog sheds, expect to leave some of that behind too. Mould has been reported on the bathroom walls and ceiling, skirting boards go undusted, and a nail was found protruding through the landing floor, which is a genuine hazard for paws as much as for bare feet. Check that landing before you let a dog loose in the flat. The television and wifi are also unreliable.
Best suited to dog owners who want a cheap, spacious base within walking distance of the beach and who will forgive tired decor to get it. On those terms it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
