You can walk out of the door into the town's cafes and shops, and the northern fells, Bassenthwaite and the Cumbrian coast are all short drives away. Dog owners rate the location highly, and the point comes up that dog-friendly places in this part of Cumbria take some finding.
Dogs are welcome and the arrangement is informal rather than policy-heavy, so it is worth checking the current pet terms with the owner when you book. The cottage is compact, clean and warm, with a small patio to sit out on, and the owner is quick to reply and generous with local recommendations - which walks are worth doing, which cafes will take a dog.
