Pet-friendly summary
Annahouse is a roomy house in Annalong, on the County Down coast, with the Mourne Mountains rising behind it and the sea about ten minutes' walk in the other direction. It is bigger inside than the photographs suggest, well equipped, and set up for people who mean to spend the day outdoors and come back to somewhere warm and uncomplicated.
The garden is the feature dog owners single out. It is fully enclosed and a decent size, so dogs can be let straight out, run about, or lie around while something goes on the barbecue. Guests have brought everything from one small puppy to three French Bulldogs and found the house takes it easily. One detail that comes up more than once is how clean it stays: several owners note there is no lingering animal smell at all, which is not a given in a house that takes pets.
The location does much of the rest. The coastal walk is on the doorstep for a first thing in the morning stretch, the Mournes are a short drive for something longer and steeper, and there is a restaurant five minutes on foot with a proper gluten-free menu. The host answers questions quickly and leaves a welcome pack, and the whole thing comes in at a price guests describe as good value.
The grumbles are minor and worth knowing rather than worrying about. The double bed is on the small side. The bedroom blinds are not blackout, so light arrives early in summer.
