How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 1 pet-mention guest review sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 14 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.8/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Audley Lodge is a four-star holiday lodge with its own hot tub at Allerthorpe, in the flat farmland just outside Pocklington in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is a whole unit with its own door, balcony and outdoor space on a dog-friendly country park, so there are no shared corridors or lifts to negotiate with a dog in tow, and York is roughly half an hour away by car.
Inside there is room for a family, with a well-equipped kitchen and enough space that a dog is not underfoot. The park has a bar and restaurant, JJ's, which guests rate highly for food, and the balcony and hot tub give you somewhere to sit out with a dog once the day is done.
The thing to know before booking is walking. Guests travelling with a dog have reported that the nearest proper walk is over a mile from the lodge, so you will be driving to it rather than stepping out of the door, which is a real consideration if a long morning walk is part of your routine. Housekeeping has also drawn comment: a spare duvet was found covered in dog hair, and faults with the hot tub, including a broken lid, have come up more than once. Arrival can be rigid too, with early check-in agreed by phone in advance and then refused at the desk.
Best suited to a family or group who want a hot tub, a bar a short walk away and easy access to York and the Wolds, and who are content to drive their dog to a walk rather than start one at the door.
