How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 25 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 260 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Set in fields off Waddington Road at West Bradford, a couple of miles north of Clitheroe, this pair of converted self-catering cottages is built around the sort of outdoor space dog owners actually want: a private garden for each cottage opening onto paddocks, with footpaths straight from the door into the Ribble Valley. Guests travelling with dogs describe letting them run in the paddocks morning and evening, and there is safe off-road parking rather than a roadside space to unload into.
Dogs are welcomed as a matter of course rather than tolerated, and multi-dog parties are routine - two dogs is a common booking here and nobody reports a problem with it. The owners live on site, greet arrivals and are repeatedly mentioned for making a fuss of the dogs on the doorstep. Small touches turn up often enough to look like standard practice: fresh milk left in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cupboard.
Fencing is the thing to ask about before you book. There are two cottages and the boundaries are not identical: some guests found the grounds secure enough to let a dog off the lead for the whole stay, while others kept theirs on a lead at first because the garden opens onto the paddocks and, in places, onto a neighbour's. If you have an escape artist, say so when you book and check which cottage you are getting.
The location earns its keep on foot. West Bradford and Waddington between them have four pubs within walking distance, all reported as dog-friendly, and Clitheroe is a short drive for shops and the castle grounds. Inside, the cottages are modern, warm and compact - good kitchens, comfortable beds, a wet room or walk-in shower. Not every report is glowing: cleanliness and general upkeep have drawn criticism, and the small footprint means the bathrooms are tight. Guests also note there is no outdoor bin for dog bags and no vacuum or long brush for the mud and cut grass a dog carries in off the paddock.
Best suited to couples or solo travellers with one or two dogs who want countryside on the doorstep, pub walks in the evening and space to let a dog stretch out - and who would rather have a paddock than a hotel corridor.
