Beudy Bach is a converted barn above the water at the eastern tip of Anglesey, a few minutes from Penmon Point and around ten minutes' drive from Beaumaris. Dogs do well here for a simple reason: the ground floor is hard flooring over underfloor heating, so a wet, sandy dog can come in from the beach, dry off in front of the wood burner and leave nothing behind. Owners of short-coated breeds are especially fond of the heated floors, and at least one cat has taken to them too.
The walking is the other draw. A path drops down to the shore in five to ten minutes, Penmon Point and its lighthouse are within reach on foot, and Anglesey's quieter beaches take dogs all year, though the busier resort beaches carry summer restrictions. The owner is the sort who meets you at the door, makes a fuss of the dogs and then tells you exactly which walk to do first; guests are usually offered the use of the adjoining field, which is where the off-lead running happens.
What Beudy Bach does not have is a secure garden of its own. The field is by arrangement rather than a gate you can open at will, so a dog needing a quick unsupervised let-out at eleven at night is on a lead in the dark, and it is properly dark out there with no external lighting, so pack a torch. The barn is one of three lets sharing the site, and other guests' dogs are occasionally audible at night. Two smaller points: there is no washing machine, which comes up in feedback more than anything else, and the big picture windows pick up nose marks quickly, so they are not always as clean as the view deserves.
