Borranside is a small whole-house self-catering cottage in Waterhead on the southern edge of Ambleside, a few minutes' walk from the head of Windermere. The whole-cottage format is well suited to dog owners who'd rather skip a shared B&B or hotel - no other guests, no shared corridors, and there's a secure rear garden behind a gate so dogs can spend supervised time off-lead.
The location does a lot of the work. The lake is on the doorstep and central Ambleside is a 15-minute stroll, which means car-free walks for the dog before heading out and easy access to dog-friendly Ambleside pubs and cafes for evenings. Inside, the cottage is set up as a family rental rather than a dedicated dog-traveller property - so you won't find dog beds or treats laid on, but you'll have the run of the place.
