Brixham Breeze Cabin

Brixham Breeze Cabin is a self-catering cabin on Nelson Road in Brixham, in a residential pocket above the harbour with a playing field directly across from the front door. That field is the reason to book here with a dog. It is open ground with sea views and room to let one properly run, and it is close enough that you can be out on it at seven in the morning without getting dressed properly first.

Behind the cabin there is a small enclosed garden with a lawn, which covers the quick trips out and gives a dog somewhere to lie in the sun off the lead. Having an enclosed garden and open ground within a few steps of each other is unusual in a town rental, and it takes most of the daily-walk pressure off.

Brixham suits dogs generally. The harbour and the fish market are a walk downhill, the town's pubs are mostly relaxed about dogs, and Berry Head National Nature Reserve on the headland gives you clifftop walking, a lighthouse and a seabird colony on the cliffs in spring. The South West Coast Path runs both ways from town, south towards Sharkham Point and north around the bay towards Paignton. St Mary's Bay is the closest beach, reached by a steep flight of steps.

The one thing to weigh is the walk back uphill from the harbour, which is a real consideration at the end of a long day out. Best suited to someone travelling with one dog who wants their own front door, a lawn out the back and open ground out the front, in a town that is comfortable with dogs.
