That combination of a secure garden and flat, traffic-free walking straight off the property is what brings dog owners back, and a lot of them do come back, several for a third, fourth or fifth stay.
The welcome is practical rather than token. Guests travelling with dogs regularly mention dog towels, a mat and bowls waiting in the cottage, with homemade cake on arrival for the humans. When the neighbouring field is not being grazed, guests get the use of that too, which gives a dog somewhere to properly stretch out.
