Pet-friendly summary
Ceol Na Mara, or Music of the Sea, is a flat on the seafront at Rosemarkie, on the Black Isle just north of Inverness, and its position does most of the work. The beach is directly opposite, dogs are under no restrictions on it, and guests with dogs describe walking straight out of the door onto sand. Parking is right outside, which sounds like a small thing until you are unloading a wet dog and a car full of gear.
Inside, guests describe a clean, comfortable and well equipped flat with everything needed for a holiday, and a view over the firth and the country beyond it. The welcome is warm and unfussy, with the host meeting guests on arrival and dogs treated as expected rather than tolerated. Rosemarkie itself is a quiet Highland coastal village with a small shop, a pub and somewhere to eat more or less opposite, and the shoreline walk towards Chanonry Point and Fortrose starts on the doorstep. Inverness is about twenty minutes by car, which makes this a workable base for the wider Highlands as well as a destination in its own right.
Two caveats. There is not much choice of places to eat nearby, so plan on cooking for at least part of the stay - the kitchen is set up well for it. And the owners live close by, with guests conscious of how much noise carries; if your dog barks when left, this is not somewhere to leave one alone in the flat.
Best suited to a couple with a dog who want a beach at the door, quiet evenings and Highland driving within easy reach. It earns a 4.7/5 paw rating.
