Chy An Gweal Farm Cottage is a beautifully finished cottage between St Ives and Carbis Bay, and on quality alone it's hard to fault - guests consistently describe an immaculate, high-standard interior, a good garden, parking for two cars and thoughtful welcome touches. But if you're travelling with a dog, there's one important thing to understand before you book: this is more of a dog-tolerated cottage than a dog-friendly one.

Several guests with dogs have flagged the same restriction. Dogs are only allowed in the kitchen and dining area - not upstairs, and not in the sitting room or bedrooms. So if your dog normally settles on the sofa with you in the evening or sleeps in your room, that won't be possible here, and more than one dog owner has said they'd think twice as a result. The owner cites hypoallergenic reasons for the rule.

It's worth knowing the garden, while pleasant, isn't fully enclosed and backs onto a path and the main road, so it isn't a spot to let a dog out off-lead unsupervised. A couple of guests also noted road noise at night and that the owner lives next door, which most found fine but a few felt was a little close.

On the plus side, the cottage genuinely is lovely - quality fixtures and fittings, very clean, with good parking and an EV charger on site (check how the charging cost is calculated before you use it, as one guest found it pricey). St Ives is walkable in around 20 to 25 minutes, though it's a steep return, and Carbis Bay is close by.

Best suited to dog owners whose dog is happy to settle in a kitchen or dining space and doesn't need the run of the house or a secure garden - if you like your dog with you on the sofa and upstairs, one of the many less-restrictive cottages nearby will suit you better.
