Pet-friendly summary
Cloverwell is a self-contained first-floor flat attached to the owners' house in Woodleigh, a small South Hams hamlet a few minutes inland from Kingsbridge. It is set up for two people and one dog, and what makes it work is what sits opposite: acres of Woodland Trust community woodland with waymarked paths, reachable on foot across a field without touching a road.
Provision for dogs is generous for a small let. A basket waits by the front door with treats, towels and the odd essential, there is a fenced front garden for letting a dog out first thing, and the owners let guests use the large field behind the property for proper exercise. The entrance hall at the foot of the stairs doubles as a place to dry a wet dog and park muddy boots. The owners live next door with their own dog and a flock of free-range hens, and guests consistently describe them as helpful without hovering.
Kingsbridge is a few minutes by car for shops and the quay, and the dog-friendly beaches of the South Hams, Bigbury among them, are a short drive. Salcombe, Dartmouth and Burgh Island are all within range for a day out, and there is a village pub at Moreleigh that guests rate for food.
The main thing to weigh is scale. This is a compact flat: the bedroom and shower room are both small, hanging space is limited for two, and the sofa is on the modest side. The fenced garden is small too, so the field and the woods do the real work. The lane in is properly rural and takes a little finding the first time. For a couple with one dog who want woodland on the doorstep and beaches half an hour away, though, it is hard to fault, and it earns a 4.8/5 paw rating.
