Pet-friendly summary
Corner Cottage is a comfortable, well-kept cottage on the hillside above Bakewell, and it is popular with dog owners, several of whom have been back three, four or five times. It earns a 4.7/5 paw rating.
The location is the reason. Fields for a morning walk are just round the corner, open countryside is about ten minutes away on foot, and the town centre is a short walk down the hill, where many of the shops welcome dogs. It also makes a central base for exploring the wider Peak District.
There is a small enclosed courtyard garden, which guests use for letting their dog out, though it is compact. One guest with a puppy found the gate latch had been painted over and would not drop, so it is worth checking the gate closes properly before letting a young or escape-prone dog out on its own.
The most important thing to know is the house rule: dogs are not allowed upstairs or on the sofas. Guests say this is set out in the owner's arrival instructions rather than prominently in the listing, and it caught out at least one owner whose dog normally sleeps in the bedroom. If your dog cannot settle downstairs overnight, this is probably not the right cottage.
Other practical points come up often. The walk back from town is up a steep hill, parking fits one car comfortably and two small ones at a squeeze, and the timings are tighter than most cottages, with arrival from 5pm and departure by 9am. Inside, guests praise the powerful shower, comfortable beds, cosy blankets and the cleanliness.
For one dog that is happy to sleep downstairs, and owners who want fields on the doorstep and Bakewell a stroll away, Corner Cottage is a dependable choice.
