- Evidence: 4 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 65 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
This slate-built terrace cottage climbs into the hillside at Blaenau Ffestiniog, in the heart of Eryri's slate country, and it is a genuinely practical base for a dog. The downstairs floors are slate, easy to sweep down after a wet walk, there is a gate on the stairs, a small enclosed back yard that dogs make good use of, and a dog bed with a pair of metal bowls waiting in the cottage, so you can pack lighter than you might expect.
The house rules matter here, though, and they are stricter than the listing lets on. Dogs stay downstairs, off the carpeted upper floor, and cannot be left alone in the cottage while you are out. Guests who had planned a dog-free day out have been caught out by that, so build your plans around taking the dog along.
The location is the draw. A footpath onto the mountain starts close to the door, the town's shops and supermarket are a five-minute walk, the slate caverns and their zip lines are a few minutes' drive, and Betws-y-Coed is about twenty minutes away. The cottage sits up a steep, narrow hill with a single parking space outside, and the gentler of the two access roads is worth finding first time.
Be realistic about the fabric of the place. It is an old stone cottage, cosy with the fire going but slow to warm, and slippers are a sensible thing to pack. Some guests have found the interiors tired, and lingering smells, including of previous dogs, have been mentioned more than once, so it is not the pick for anyone particular about that. No pet fee or dog limit is published, so confirm the details when you book.
Best suited to walkers who want their dog with them all day and a fire at night, in striking slate-country scenery. It earns a 4.3/5 paw rating.
