How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 3 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 12 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.3/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Craiglwyd Bach is a small self-catering cottage in the village above Penrhyn Bay, on the hillside between Llandudno and Rhos-on-Sea, and it is set up for dogs rather than merely open to them. Up to two pets can stay, and it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
What dog owners single out is the owners themselves, who are full of practical local knowledge - including which taxi firms will take a dog, the sort of detail that only comes from hosts who have been asked the question before. The cottage is quaint and well kept, with a comfortable bed, a proper set of cooking kit, a log burner and a welcome of milk and cake on arrival. The heating is generous, and the log burner gets through logs quickly, so budget for a few extra bags.
The walking is what makes it. Three pubs that welcome dogs sit within half an hour on foot, the Little Orme headland rises straight behind the village for a proper climb, and Llandudno and Conwy are both a short drive away for beaches, shops and the castle. The views from the cottage draw comment on their own.
Two practical warnings, neither of which stopped guests coming back. The lane up to the cottage is genuinely tight, and a wide car makes for a nervy first couple of attempts, though there is parking by the village hall a couple of hundred metres away if you would rather leave it and walk. And there is no light outside the door, which is a nuisance when you come back after dark with a lead in one hand and a torch in the other. Bring a head torch.
Best suited to a couple with one or two dogs who want a cosy base on the north Wales coast with pubs and headland walks within striking distance.
