The annex is genuinely small and makes the most of it: a wood burner with logs supplied, a mezzanine sleeping area reached by a ladder, and a kitchen stocked with more than the usual basics. The village setting is quiet, there are good pubs within reach for a meal, and the Weald walking on the doorstep is what most people come for.

It is not a straightforward recommendation, though, and the gaps matter if you are bringing a dog. Charging is the first: the listing has shown no pet fee while a guest has been asked for £20 for their dog after booking, so get the position in writing beforehand. Cleanliness is the second, and it comes up often enough to flag. Guests have arrived to dog hair left under the sofa from an earlier stay and a paw print on the bed linen, alongside an unswept log burner and no fire lighters.

The garden divides opinion too. Most accounts call it secure; one party travelling with dogs found the back garden unsecured and the grass too long to use, and their stay ended in a dispute with the owners. That is a single account against several positive ones, but it is specific enough that you should look at the garden yourself before letting a dog off the lead. Low headroom at the top of the stairs and around the beds is a consistent theme as well.
