Daisybank is a three-bedroom house in Kingsbarns, a coastal village about six miles south of St Andrews, and it is set up for the kind of trip where the dog is a full member of the party. Every bedroom is en suite, the living and dining space is generous, and the beach and the village inn are both a walk rather than a drive away.
Guests travelling with dogs rate it consistently well, and the location does much of that work. Kingsbarns beach is a wide, quiet stretch of sand, the Fife Coastal Path runs past the village, and the community-run inn round the corner has a reputation for looking after dogs as warmly as their owners. Cambo Estate and its gardens are minutes away, and St Andrews is close enough for a day out without having to stay in it.
One caveat matters more than the rest and is worth reading twice. The garden is described as fully enclosed and it is not. Separate parties have reported a gap under the hedge that needed a bin dragged across it, and a hole through which a dog got out altogether. Walk the boundary before you let a dog off the lead in it, and do not rely on the enclosure for anything that hunts for a way through.
Beyond that, the house is cold on arrival and the upstairs bedrooms are slow to warm even with the heating running, so allow time for it to come up to temperature. Some of the woodwork and soft furnishings are showing their age and there are stains in the carpet, which bothers a dog owner less than it might bother anyone else.
