Elm View, Blockley

Elm View is a traditional stone cottage in the Cotswold village of Blockley, a few minutes from Chipping Campden and within easy reach of Moreton-in-Marsh, Broadway and Bourton-on-the-Water. It sleeps up to six across three bedrooms, and its real appeal for dog owners is what sits just outside the door: an enclosed, secure garden and walking routes that begin almost from the gate.

The garden comes up again and again in feedback from guests travelling with dogs. It is fully enclosed, so pets can play or potter without any risk of wandering off, and there is a practical spot at the back with its own sink for rinsing muddy paws and refilling water bowls. Owners regularly describe the surrounding countryside as ideal for walks, with footpaths leading straight into the fields and a handful of dog-friendly pubs within a short drive.

The welcome extends beyond dogs as well: on at least one stay the owner accommodated a small caged pet alongside a dog. That said, the cottage now appears to limit the number of dogs per booking, so anyone travelling with more than one should confirm the current rule before booking. A per-dog charge applies, listed below.

A couple of honest caveats. Neighbouring dogs can be vocal early in the morning, which several guests have noticed, so light sleepers may want to pack ear plugs. The cottage is characterful rather than luxurious - steep stairs and low beams come with a building of this age, and the top bedroom in particular sits under a low ceiling. None of that affects the pet experience, but it is worth knowing.

Elm View suits dog owners after a genuine countryside base - somewhere with a safe garden, walks on the doorstep and an owner used to four-legged guests - rather than a polished boutique stay.
