How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 77 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Gibraltar Farm Cottage sits high above the Calder Valley at Pecket Well, on the moor road between Hebden Bridge and Haworth, and it comes close to an ideal base for a walking holiday with a dog. This is Pennine country: Hardcastle Crags, the Bronte moors and miles of gritstone footpaths are all within a short drive or a decent walk, and the cottage looks out over the lot.
What sets it apart is space. Guests with dogs have been given the run of one of the owners' fields for their dog to play in, which is a rare offer: somewhere genuinely enclosed to let a dog tear about off-lead without driving anywhere to find it. Combined with a whole-house let and no shared areas, it means a dog that does not settle well around strangers can decompress properly. It is worth asking about when you book, as it is not a listed facility.
The owners draw consistently warm mentions. This is an owner-run place where people are around and helpful rather than a keysafe-and-goodbye arrangement. The hot tub with its valley view is the other thing guests single out, though that one is for the humans.
Two practical notes. The log burner has had a faulty door seal that let smoke into the front room when lit, so check it draws properly before settling a dog in front of it. And the location is genuinely rural: the internet has been unreliable and the moor road is exposed in bad weather.
The cottage does not publish a set pet charge or dog limit, so agree the number of dogs and any house rules with the owners when you book.
Best suited to walkers with one or two dogs who want moorland from the doorstep and somewhere secure to let them run.
