Gill Barn

Gill Barn is a whole-house barn conversion in a rural setting near Penrith, on the eastern edge of the Lake District. It is a self-catering holiday rental run as a personal-host let, sized for a small group, with a stated policy of welcoming up to two pets on request - a useful detail for travellers bringing more than one dog.

The property is set up with dog owners in mind. The garden is enclosed and has been specifically called out by a pet-travelling guest as good for dogs, and the layout (a converted barn with a cosy lounge, log burner, big kitchen and direct access to local walking routes) suits the kind of stay where the dog is part of every day rather than crated when you head out. Recent group stays describe the property as well-equipped and quiet, with clear instructions from the host.

A couple of practical notes. The pet policy is by-request, not automatic - confirm directly with the host when booking that two-pet bookings are available for your dates, and check whether a fee applies (Agoda does not publish one). Only one Agoda review is currently from a pet-travelling guest, so the picture is small-sample; the property's whole-house format, enclosed garden and explicit two-pet policy are the strongest signals here rather than the review count. We will revisit as more stays accumulate.

Penrith and Ullswater are within easy driving distance, and the surrounding lanes give straight-from-the-door walks. There is no immediate village amenity within walking distance, so plan a supermarket stop on the way in if you are self-catering.

Best suited to: a couple or small group with one or two well-mannered dogs who want a quiet rural Lake-District-edge base with an enclosed garden and proper kitchen.
