This ground-floor retreat sits right in the centre of Kendal, which makes it an easy pick for dog owners: everything is on one level, with no stairs to manage, and the town, the river and the walk up to the castle are all a short, flat stroll away. Kendal is a friendly base for the southern Lakes, with Windermere about twenty minutes on.
Dogs get a proper welcome rather than mere tolerance. Guests travelling with dogs mention blankets, biscuits and water bowls laid on for them, and there is a small courtyard that doubles as a sun-trap for sitting out or a quick step outside without heading straight into town. For a central flat, that little pocket of private outdoor space is a real plus.
