Katie's Cottage is a four-star self-catering house on Llanberis Road just outside Caernarfon, with Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) roughly twenty minutes away by car. It is let as a whole house, comes with its own hot tub and has a driveway that takes four cars comfortably, so a group or an extended family can bring a dog and still have the run of the place.

Up to two dogs can stay per booking. Because you have the whole house, there are no shared corridors or communal lounges to steer a dog through, and the driveway gives you somewhere unhurried to unload on arrival. That format tends to suit dogs who find other guests coming and going unsettling.

Feedback from guests who have stayed here with a dog in mind is limited to a single account so far, so the picture is an early one rather than a settled track record. What it covers is consistent enough: a well presented property, a layout that works when a group wants to spend the evening together, a hot tub that gets singled out, easy parking and owners who are helpful and quick to respond. The only complaint raised was a wish for a few more kitchen utensils when cooking for a full house.

The setting does a lot of the work. Caernarfon and its castle are a few minutes away, the Llanberis side of Eryri (Snowdonia) is close enough for an early start, and the Menai Strait gives you flat, low-level walking for days when the summits are not an option. Katie's Cottage suits a group or family with one or two well-behaved dogs who want a private house with a hot tub and quick access to the mountains, rather than anyone looking for hotel-style service on site.
