- The wider guest experience is strong - guests rate this 9.1/10 overall on booking platforms
Worth knowing
- Paw rating is based on 2 reviews - limited sample, treat as directional
- Pet fee and any size restrictions aren't published - confirm directly with the property before booking
How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 83 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.1/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Knott House Farm sits on Crosthwaite Road on the edge of Keswick, two minutes from the park gate that leads into town along the river, and that position is most of the reason to bring a dog here. You can be walking without touching a main road, Fitz Park and the Greta are on the doorstep, and Latrigg, Derwentwater and the Newlands valley are all short drives for a proper day out.
The cottage itself is a quirky conversion that sleeps six, and dog owners describe it as comfortable and well presented, with enough room for a family plus a couple of small dogs without anyone falling over anyone else. Keswick is about as dog-friendly as British towns get, so the pubs, cafes and outdoor shops within walking distance are almost all happy to see a dog come in.
Two caveats are worth weighing. The front garden opens directly onto a shared path with no gate on that side, so a dog that likes to investigate cannot be left out there unattended, and guests have specifically asked for a second gate to be added. Cleanliness has also drawn complaints, with cobwebs and dog hair reported left on the furniture between stays. That matters more in a cottage that takes dogs than it would elsewhere, both for anyone in the party with an allergy and as a signal of how thorough the changeover is. It has not stopped guests rating the stay highly or saying they would return, but it is worth a look round on arrival.
Best suited to Lakeland walkers with a dog who want to step out of the door and go, and who will not mind giving the sofa a once-over before they settle in. It earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
