Pet-friendly summary
Lock View is a high-spec canal-side house in Gargrave that combines a proper spa set-up with very easy dog walking, and guests who bring a dog are uniformly delighted with it. It earns a 4.8/5 paw rating.
The canal is the star for dogs. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath runs right outside, so every walk starts at the door, with narrowboats working the lock to watch along the way. Guests head out along the towpath daily, and the village, with its pubs, chip shop and Co-op, is a few minutes' walk. It is also well placed for exploring the Dales and for Skipton.
The outside space is a small, secure patio, which is reassuring for nervous dogs. It is worth knowing that it has no grass, and with the hot tub, sauna and patio furniture in place there is not much room left for a dog to play, so toilet breaks mean a quick trip to the canal bank. Bookings are for one dog.
Inside, the house is spotless and finished to a high standard. The upstairs lounge has a glass floor looking down into the kitchen, which people love but at least one dog never quite trusted, tiptoeing round the edge all week. Upstairs windows and a Juliet balcony look over the canal, a favourite spot for a dog to watch passers-by. The hot tub, sauna and cold plunge tub are a welcome way to warm up after a long walk.
The owners are responsive and leave a thoughtful welcome pack. Note that the main listing photo shows two properties, so the house is a little more compact than it may first appear.
For a small group with one dog who want towpath walks on tap and a spa to come back to, Lock View is an easy recommendation.
