Luxury Dog Friendly Home in Brixham Harbour

This is a four-star apartment on King Street, set above Brixham's working harbour with views over the boats, and it makes a comfortable base for a couple or small family with a dog. Everything is within walking distance, the harbour, the marina, the town's pubs and restaurants, and the South West Coast Path runs straight through Brixham, so the dog walking starts at the front door rather than after a drive.

Dogs are accepted by prior arrangement and a supplement may apply, so confirm the details with the owners when you book rather than assuming. Assistance dogs are welcome. Free off-street parking comes with the apartment, in a space a short way along the road, which is worth a great deal in central Brixham where parking is otherwise scarce and paid for.

The owners get a lot of credit from guests: warm communication before and during a stay, flexibility over things like an early bag drop, and small welcoming touches left in the apartment. Inside, it is consistently described as spacious, spotless and well furnished, with the harbour view from the living space doing most of the work.

Two things dog owners should plan for. The outdoor space is a small open courtyard rather than an enclosed garden, fine for a quick toilet break but not somewhere a dog will spend the afternoon. More importantly, the front gate opens onto a busy road and has a habit of being left open by people coming and going, so keep your dog on a lead until you are safely inside, particularly first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Occasionally a guest has felt the flat could do with a deeper clean, with the sofa showing signs of previous four-legged visitors, which cuts both ways: dogs clearly are not confined to the hard floors here.

Best suited to a couple or small family with a well-behaved dog whose main exercise happens out on the coast path and up at Berry Head rather than in a private garden. It earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
