Manor Inn Galmpton

The Manor Inn at Galmpton is a small country pub-with-rooms tucked into the South Hams, just inland from Brixham and within easy reach of the National Trust's Greenway estate, Dartmouth and Paignton. It is one of the more comfortable pub stays in this corner of Devon for guests travelling with dogs, with a setup that feels worked-in rather than rule-bound.

Dog-friendliness is one of the things the Manor Inn is most consistently praised for. Dogs are welcomed in the bar and restaurant as well as the rooms, and pet-travelling guests routinely describe being made to feel that their dog is genuinely part of the visit rather than tolerated. The most cited example is a morning sausage offered to dogs at breakfast, which has become something of a house signature.

The pet fee is reasonable by Devon standards. One recent guest with two dogs reported being charged £10 per dog per night, which is at the lower end for the area and was specifically flagged as not feeling like a rip-off. Rooms are described as spacious and quiet, with the superior rooms closest to the car park if that matters with a dog and luggage. The building itself is genuinely old: a couple of guests have mentioned tired carpets and a step or two between bedrooms and bathrooms, so it is worth asking when booking if anyone in your party is unsteady on their feet.

The location is well placed for coastal and woodland walks. Greenway is a comfortable day out and most of the South Devon AONB sits within a short drive. Worth knowing before you set off: there is a second, unrelated "Manor Inn" in Brixham itself which is just a pub, not the hotel, and satnav routings have been known to send guests to the wrong one.
