How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 9 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 25 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.

Pet-friendly summary
Marchlyn is a cosy, immaculately kept cottage on a small farm above Deiniolen, a few miles from Llanberis, and it is a lovely spot for a walking holiday with a dog. Guests travelling with dogs are close to unanimous in their praise, which is why it earns a 4.8/5 paw rating.
Up to two pets are welcome and a £25 pet fee applies. Walks start right from the door: country lanes and paths lead up towards Elidir Fawr, and the old slate route down into Llanberis makes a good full day out. Dogs settle in well indoors too, with space to stretch out in rooms that are warm and very well heated.
Hosts Sharon and Murray are the other big draw. Arrivals are met with wine and milk, the cottage is spotless, and the owners are on hand without being intrusive - texting advice on where to park when snow arrived, for example. The owners have dogs of their own, and there are ponies and sheep in the surrounding fields, which is worth knowing if your dog is excitable around livestock.
That leads to the one practical caveat. The patio sits across the gravel drive rather than directly outside the door, and its fence has gaps through to a sheep field, so it is not a fully secure space for letting a dog out on its own. Other dog owners found the garden area fine, but if yours is an escape artist, plan on supervised trips outside.
The location is quiet and rural, so a car is recommended, but the mountains, Zip World, Caernarfon and the beaches are all no more than about half an hour away. For active couples and families who want a peaceful base with walks on the doorstep, Marchlyn is an easy recommendation.
