Pet-friendly summary

Meadow View is a three-bedroom house on the edge of Tyn-y-Gongl, just inland of Benllech on the east coast of Anglesey. It has a wood-burning stove in the sitting room, a hot tub in the garden and enough bathrooms that a larger party is not queuing, and there is off-road parking with an electric charge point. A shop and a pub are a couple of hundred yards away, which matters more than it sounds when you are travelling with a dog and would rather not drive out again.

The garden is the reason to book it. It is properly enclosed and dog-proof, so a dog can be let out without a lead or a supervising adult, and dog owners single it out consistently. Two dogs are welcome under the letting terms. A day on the beach followed by the hot tub while the dog dries off on the lawn is the pattern guests describe most often, and the house is set up for exactly that.

Two honest caveats. The house is showing its age in the details - guests have flagged worn utensils and small items that would cost very little to replace - and it arrives without the welcome pack of local produce that comparable cottages tend to leave out. Neither affects the dog, but both temper the overall impression. The other is the approach: the turning off the main road has no light on the sign, and finding it after dark takes a slow first pass.

For walking, Benllech beach is a short distance away, with Red Wharf Bay under two miles and the sands at Llanddona and Moelfre a little further round the coast. The Anglesey Coast Path runs along this stretch, so there is plenty of on-lead coastal walking within a few minutes' drive, and the low-tide flats at Red Wharf Bay open into a large run for a dog whose recall you trust.

Meadow View suits a family or a group of friends with a couple of dogs who want a fenced garden, a hot tub and the east-coast beaches close by, and who will not mind a house that is comfortable rather than pristine.
