Meadowside, Penzance

Meadowside is a self-catering cottage set on a working farm in the far west of Cornwall, close to Lamorna Cove, Mousehole and the coast path around Penzance. It is a genuinely dog-focused place to stay, and travelling with a dog is clearly normal here rather than merely tolerated.

The property's booking listing mentions one well-behaved dog, though guests have happily stayed with two, so it is worth confirming your party with the owners when you book. Arrivals are often met with a cream tea, and some dog-owning guests have been welcomed with doggy biscuits alongside the scones.

The grounds are the standout for dog owners. Meadowside has its own driveway and gates and can be closed off completely, and there is private garden and lawn space where dogs can be off-lead safely. Guests repeatedly mention being able to walk straight out across the surrounding fields without getting in the car. The owners live on the farm, are described as warm and generous hosts, and keep their own friendly dogs and chickens on site.

For walks, the setting is hard to beat. There is a footpath across the field to a lake, and Lamorna Cove is within walking distance, though the route down is steep. The wider area around Land's End, Mousehole and the South West Coast Path gives plenty of longer options.

A couple of things to plan for. The enclosed garden suits smaller dogs well, but at least one guest found a larger, bouncier dog could clear the boundary wall, so keep an eye on bigger escape artists. And because this is an active farm, expect livestock and the owners' animals nearby, which means recall and lead discipline matter. For dog owners who want a secure rural cottage with walks from the door and a hot tub to come back to, Meadowside is an excellent fit.
