How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 38 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.8/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Mistletoe One is a lodge on the White Cross Bay park on the Ambleside road, a couple of miles north of Windermere and on the lakeside of the road. It sits back from the main drive through the site and is screened by trees, which is the reason most guests give for the place feeling quiet, and it comes with a hot tub, a well-stocked kitchen and the finish you would expect at the top of the lodge market.
Dogs are welcome and the lodge is set up for them up to a point: a crate is provided, and the host is repeatedly described as helpful and quick to sort problems out. The position is genuinely good for walking, with the lakeshore path close by and Troutbeck and the low fells above Ambleside a short drive away.
The caveats are worth reading before you book, because they are what pulls the paw rating down to 3.9/5. The lodge is carpeted in a pale colour throughout, which dog owners have found stressful after a wet Lakeland walk. The crate that comes with the lodge has been left outside between stays, arriving damp with a rusting base, so bring your own if your dog uses one. And the park is densely laid out: lodges sit close together and there is little open ground where a dog can be let off to run, so exercise means going out rather than opening the door.
Nothing about pet fees, weight limits or how many dogs are allowed is published for the lodge, so check those directly before booking.
Best suited to a group or family who want a smart, quiet lodge with a hot tub as a base, and who are happy to drive five minutes to walk the dog properly.
