Moldy Warp Barn, Oxenhope

Moldy Warp Barn is a Grade II listed barn conversion above Oxenhope, and it is the kind of whole-house let that suits dogs almost by accident: flagstone floors downstairs, no shared corridors, no neighbours to walk past, and a private enclosed field directly opposite where a dog can be let off the lead. The owners lean into it rather than merely permitting it, leaving a stack of throws out so a fluffy dog can settle on the furniture without anyone worrying about it.

Inside, the barn is bigger than the photographs suggest. A flagstoned dining and sitting area opens off a well-equipped kitchen, with a double bedroom, a twin and a bathroom downstairs, a canopied king bed and a proper lounge upstairs, and a mezzanine above that. Groups have arrived with four adults, a child and two dogs and still had room to spread out. The owners are described as welcoming and attentive to detail, and the barn is dressed for whatever season it is booked in.

For walkers with dogs the position is close to ideal. Fields lead straight down into Oxenhope, and the old railway line runs across to Haworth, so most of a week can be walked from the door without driving anywhere. There is outdoor space and a swing for children too.

Two caveats. One group found the pans and baking trays needed washing before use, so give the kitchen a look on arrival. And dogs at the surrounding properties bark early in the morning, which is nothing to do with the barn but did cut one group's sleep short, and is worth knowing if your own dog is likely to answer them. Best suited to a family or a group of walkers with a dog or two, it earns a 4.7/5 paw rating.
