Morocco House (Dartmouth River View)

Morocco House is a tall, four-storey holiday home on the Kingswear side of the River Dart, and every main room looks straight across the water to Dartmouth. You have the whole house to yourselves, with a garden above the river that is made for an afternoon cup of tea while the boats go by, which makes it an easy, unhurried place to bring a dog.

Dogs are welcome for £25 per pet, per stay. The house takes one dog, or two if both are very small, and there is a 35 kg weight limit, so owners of the very largest breeds should check before booking.

Guests who have brought dogs describe it as a genuine home from home, well equipped and warm, with a log burner and app-controlled heating that keep it cosy through the colder months. Families have used it for a Christmas week with relatives coming and going, and the dog fitted in without any fuss.

The location does a lot of the work. Kingswear is small and easy to explore on foot, Dartmouth is a short ferry hop across the river, and there are dog-friendly places to eat close by. Dog owners report plenty of walking straight from the door.

Two practical points are worth planning for. The house is reached by steps, both up and down, so it suits fit dogs and people and is a poor match for an older dog or anyone with limited mobility. Parking is at the marina a couple of minutes' walk away and is not cheap, and the street outside is very narrow, which makes loading and unloading awkward.
