My Little Studio, Farmborough

My Little Studio is a one-room conversion in the village of Farmborough, about fifteen minutes' drive from Bath, and it has quietly become a repeat booking for people travelling alone with a dog. Several guests have stayed more than once, which for a studio this size is the clearest recommendation there is.

The room is self-contained with its own entrance and a key-safe check-in, so there is no reception to walk a dog through and no shared corridor to negotiate. It is genuinely small, one room with a bathroom, but dog owners report fitting two crates in without losing the floor space they need, and the host leaves the sort of extras that save packing: milk, shower gel, shampoo, and cleaning products for the inevitable muddy-paw incident.

Walking is the other reason it works. Footpaths start close to the accommodation and lead straight into open countryside, with fields and livestock along the way, so a lead is sensible. The village community shop is a few minutes on foot and has an electric-car charger outside. Bath is close enough for a day out but far enough away that evenings stay quiet.

Two caveats come up repeatedly and both deserve weight. A dog somewhere nearby barks early in the morning, reported across more than one stay, so light sleepers and dogs that react to barking should know about it before booking. The floor is carpeted, which is comfortable underfoot but leaves owners of muddy or moulting dogs managing it themselves, and some bring their own towels for exactly that reason. The outdoor space is small, closer to a flat's than a cottage's, parking is tight for a large vehicle, and the blinds do not block much early light.

Best suited to solo travellers and couples with one or two settled dogs who want a quiet, low-fuss base near Bath; less suited to dogs that react to barking, or to anyone wanting a garden to let a dog out into.
