  • Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
  • Wider context: The property has 9 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary

Nethergill Farm is a working hill farm at the head of Langstrothdale, a few miles up the dale from Buckden, and the accommodation is a pair of haylofts converted out of an old stone barn. It is about as remote as the Yorkshire Dales get while still being reachable by car, and that remoteness is exactly why dog owners choose it.

The clearest theme in the feedback from guests with dogs is quiet - specifically, the kind of quiet that matters if your dog is frightened of fireworks. More than one party has booked here in early November for that reason and found the plan worked: nothing audible, no neighbours, and open farmland and moor immediately outside. Owners also describe the hosts as helpful and easy to deal with, and the accommodation itself as clean and well equipped.

The Dales Way runs past the farm, so the walking starts at the door, and the drive over to Hawes for a pub lunch takes about twenty minutes. This is a real farm with nesting birds, free-ranging chickens and livestock, though, so dogs stay on a lead around the place - and within that, they are welcome across the farm's land and in its streams.

Two caveats. Check-in is late in the afternoon and check-out is early in the morning, and guests have found that combination costs them most of a day - the owners have shifted both when asked, so it is worth asking. The approach is a single-track farm road, which is unnerving in the dark on a winter arrival. Dogs also have to be booked in when you book the hayloft, rather than simply turning up with one.

Best suited to owners of noise-anxious dogs who want genuine isolation, and who do not mind a farm track and an early start on departure day.
