The house has been refurbished recently and guests with dogs single out the same practical things: plenty of room to spread out, hard-wearing modern fittings, three bathrooms, and a garden that works for a quick let-out before bed as much as for sitting in on a warm evening. The location needs a realistic look. Burnholme is a genuine residential neighbourhood with shops close by and easy access to the main roads, but the walk into the city centre is around two miles and several guests have found it longer than they expected. With a dog that suits some people very well - the walk in along the river and through the Foss corridor is a pleasant one - and suits others not at all, particularly if you were planning to leave the car parked all week.

The recurring grumbles are about kit rather than cleanliness: on a full booking there have not always been enough plates, glasses or towels for the number of people sleeping there, and appliances such as the coffee machine and the television have occasionally been out of action. Nothing about the pet arrangements is published - whether a charge applies, how many dogs are allowed, and whether one can be left in the house alone all need confirming with the owner before you book.
