- Evidence: 10 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 25 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.0/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary
Orchard Cottage is a quiet barn conversion on a farm near Checkley, and it suits dog owners who want countryside, space and very little else to think about. Several dog-owning guests have returned more than once, and it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
The setting is the main appeal. There is open space around the cottage for a dog to stretch its legs, footpaths lead straight out into the surrounding farmland, and cows and pheasants in the fields opposite keep things interesting. For a change of walk, JCB's lakeside grounds at Rocester are a short drive away, and the Peak District is within reach for longer days out.
Guests describe the owner as welcoming and easy to reach if anything is needed, and there is a farm shop in nearby Denstone, with supermarkets a couple of miles away and pubs in Cheadle. The cottage is clean and cosy, though it is homely rather than luxurious.
There are a few honest caveats. The farm track sees traffic, and one guest's small dog had a close call with a car coming down it at speed, so keep dogs on a lead around the drive. Another cottage sits next door, which can make things a little noisier on busy weeks. There is no wifi and no mobile signal at the cottage, which many guests enjoy but which makes it harder to be reached in an emergency. One guest also found bed linen supplied on only one bed, so confirm linen before you travel.
For a dog-friendly break built around farm walks and peaceful views, with one dog per booking, Orchard Cottage is a good, unfussy choice.
