How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 32 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.3/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet policy at a glance
- On-site pet amenities: dog wash.
- Up to two dogs stay in a cottage as standard, and the owners ask you to contact them direct if you would like to bring more
Pet-friendly summary
Orchard View Cottage sits within a converted farm complex on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, a quiet rural spot with a large lawned area, well-kept gardens and open countryside on every side. Dogs are welcome, and the grounds are the strongest thing the cottage has going for it: guests travelling with dogs pick out the big grass area for walking, the pollinator planting around the buildings and the wildlife on the lanes at dusk.
Two things about the dog set-up are worth understanding before booking. The first is that dogs are not permitted off the lead anywhere on the site. That is a reasonable rule on a shared complex, but it has caught out guests who read dog-friendly as meaning their dog would have somewhere to run, so plan for lead walks and head out to the surrounding footpaths for anything more. The second is seasonal: a persistent fly problem in warm weather has been reported, with fly spray and fly papers supplied in the cottage as the remedy. Neither is ideal with a dog in the room, and it is worth raising directly with the owners if you are booking in high summer.
The cottage itself is clean, comfortable and stylishly finished, with very good beds and a contactless arrival that guests like. A small honesty shop on site covers basics. Where it has fallen down is heat and responsiveness: rooms have been reported as uncomfortably warm during hot spells even with fans running, and one area the property has drawn criticism for is how much support guests get when something goes wrong mid-stay. Noise from other guests walking barking dogs late at night has come up too.
Orchard View Cottage earns a 4.0/5 paw rating. It is a genuinely attractive rural base with good walking on the doorstep, best suited to owners whose dogs are content on the lead and who are travelling outside the height of summer. Dogs that need off-lead space, and anyone sensitive to warm rooms, are the two cases worth checking with the owners before booking.
