Orchard View Yurt & Hot Tub

Orchard View is a glamping yurt with its own hot tub in the North Somerset countryside at Hutton, roughly ten minutes from the Weston-super-Mare seafront, and it is one of the better thought-out dog-friendly stays of its kind. It earns 4.6/5 from owners who have brought a dog, and the reason is simple: the garden is enclosed, so a dog can come and go from the yurt without a lead, which several owners noted their dogs do not get at home.

One dog can stay, charged at £15 per dog per week. The extras go further than most: a wash-down hose for muddy paws, a drinking water station and dog treats waiting on arrival, with bowls and poo bags left out too. The important restriction is seasonal. Dogs are only welcome at the yurt between May and October, so a winter break here has to be a dog-free one.

Owners describe a warm arrival, with the hosts running through how everything works and driving guests up to the yurt on a golf cart, plus a board of local recommendations inside. The yurt is bigger than the photos suggest, with a comfortable bed, a full-size fridge, hob and combination microwave, a shower with a heated towel rail, and the hot tub that most guests call the highlight. There is a dog-friendly pub about five minutes' walk away, and local taxi firms will take dogs if you ask when booking.

Two honest caveats. Because dogs stay here so regularly, soft furnishings have not always been changed between guests: a throw on the bed that smelled of wet dog, and dog hairs left on the bedding, have both been reported, so it is worth a look before you settle in. The pitches are also fairly close together, so neighbours can be heard, and canvas feels damp on a cool morning, although heaters are provided.

Best suited to a couple travelling between spring and autumn with one dog, who want a comfortable hot-tub escape with a secure garden rather than a wilderness pitch.
