How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 8 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.0/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet policy at a glance
- One pet per booking
- On-site pet amenities: enclosed garden (guests note the fence has no gate, so treat it as less than fully secure)
Pet-friendly summary
Paddock Cottage sits among the Postlip House cottages outside Winchcombe, tucked under the Cotswold escarpment in a genuinely quiet corner of Gloucestershire. For a dog, the draw is simple and it is right outside the door: an open field to run in, and enough space around the property that nobody is bothered by a bit of barking.
That field is what dog owners mention first. Being able to let a dog stretch out properly, rather than walk it on a lead down a lane, is the thing this place offers that a village cottage cannot. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped for the practicalities too, with a washing machine and dryer that earn their keep after a muddy Cotswold walk.
Be clear-eyed about the garden, though. It is fenced but has no gate, so it is not a secure area you can simply open a door onto and leave a dog in. If your dog does not have a reliable recall, that changes how the place works for you.
Cleanliness is the other reservation, and it is a real one. Dog hair left behind from previous stays has been found on the sofa, and the finish of the cottage has struck some guests as a plainer, newer conversion than the photographs suggest. There have been gaps in the practicalities as well: no instructions for the heating or appliances, no broom or mop for clearing up after a dog, and heating that failed twice before the owners fixed it.
The result is 4.0/5 on our paw rating. Paddock Cottage works well for a dog that is happy off the lead in a field, and an owner who values quiet and space over polish. It works less well if you need a gated garden or a spotless finish.
