Palm Haven House

Palm Haven House is a large, comfortable surf house on Church Street in Newquay, a short walk from Porth Beach and within easy reach of the town's other beaches. It is let as a whole house, so dogs have the run of it without shared corridors or other guests to negotiate, which tends to suit dogs that are unsettled by hotel life.

Dog-specific feedback here is still limited, so it is worth calibrating expectations accordingly, but what there is describes a genuinely good stay: dogs settling well in the house and making the most of the beach walks on the doorstep. Newquay is a strong base for that, with a run of beaches and a stretch of coast path heading north towards Watergate Bay that opens up long walks without needing the car. Many Cornish beaches relax their dog restrictions outside the summer season, so it is worth checking the current rules for the dates you are travelling.

The house itself gets consistently high marks for cleanliness, space and character, and the host is described as quick to respond to messages and generous with local information - useful when you are working out which beaches and cafes will take a dog on the day.

Two things to weigh. The stairs have been described as slippery, and there is no handrail on the way out of the bathroom, which is worth knowing if you have a dog that barges past you on the stairs or if anyone in the party is unsteady on their feet. And because this is a sizeable house aimed at families and groups, it is priced accordingly - a couple with one dog may find better value elsewhere in Newquay.

Palm Haven House earns a 4.5/5 paw rating and suits families or groups travelling with a dog who want space, a short walk to the beach and a responsive host. It is less obviously the right call for a couple on a short break.
