Pet-friendly summary
Parsley Cottage is a spacious, peaceful barn conversion that works well for a countryside break with dogs near Lancaster. It sits on a rural estate by the Lune Estuary, and the walking is the big draw: the estuary coastal path is about ten minutes on foot, leading to a dog-friendly pub at Conder Green and on to Glasson Dock, with woodland and estate walks closer still. It earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
Inside there is plenty of room for dogs to stretch out, with a huge kitchen-diner, a big lounge with a log burner and patio doors opening onto the garden. The garden centre round the corner has a cafe that lets dogs inside, and the owners live nearby, pop in to check all is well and point guests towards local walks. Dogs that are interested in animals will enjoy the ponies and sheep in the paddock behind the cottage.
The fencing is the one thing dog owners need to know about. The rear garden is enclosed, but several guests found gaps in the fence panels, a section in poor repair and only a row of young trees between this cottage and the next, so small dogs and puppies may squeeze through. Plenty of owners had no trouble, but bring a long lead until you have checked it yourself. Livestock in the surrounding fields means dogs need to be kept under close control, and the paddock is not always free for dogs to run in.
Some guests also found the cottage tired in places, with creaky beds, a door that will not close in the upstairs bathroom, patchy WiFi and bath water that only gets lukewarm. There is little local information in the cottage, so plan walks in advance.
For dog owners who value space, estuary walks from the door and a quiet rural setting over a polished finish, Parsley Cottage is a good-value choice.
