How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 5 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.9/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Peel Place Noddle is a large stone house in Eskdale, on the quieter western side of the Lake District, and it suits a dog who likes room to spread out. It sleeps ten, so nobody is squeezed, and the garden is big enough for children and a dog to be outside at the same time without getting in each other's way. Guests travelling with a dog pick out that garden, and the views from it, ahead of anything else.
One well-behaved dog is welcome. The practical detail that matters most here is the utility room, which is set up for muddy boots and does the same job for wet paws at the end of a day on the fells. There is a hot tub and an open fire, and both get heavy use in poor weather.
Eskdale is walking country rather than sightseeing country. The house is an easy walk from the village shop and the pub, and sits beside the miniature railway station, so the day can start on foot instead of with a drive to a trailhead. Scafell and the higher ground are close enough for a full day out.
Two things are worth planning for. The track down to the house does not suit every car, and parties have ended up leaving vehicles in the station car park and walking the last stretch, which is a consideration when you are unloading a dog and a week of luggage. And while the house is comfortable and full of character, reports on cleanliness are not consistent: dust in the less-used rooms and small maintenance faults come up often enough to expect one or two.
Best suited to an extended family or a group of friends bringing one dog to the western Lakes, who want a garden, a fire and somewhere to dry out between walks. It earns a 4.4/5 paw rating.
