Pines Pitch, Llangunllo

Pines Pitch is a timber lodge sitting on its own in the Radnorshire hills, with grounds that run back into woodland and a brook down one side, and it is one of the few places in the area that will take four dogs at once. That single fact does most of the work for anyone travelling as a group with several dogs. The floors are wooden throughout and sweep clean, so a wet walk does not turn into a problem. Up to four dogs can stay. No pet fee is published for the property, though guests arriving with three large dogs have reported being charged nothing extra, so it is worth confirming the position when you book. Inside there is an Aga and a wood stove that keep the place warm well into winter, and the hot tub is the feature most guests come back to. The setting is a designated dark-skies area, so a late walk with the dogs comes with a genuinely good night sky.

The one thing to plan around is the fencing. The grounds are enclosed, and guests with larger or steadier dogs consistently describe them as secure and love the freedom they give. Guests with small or determined dogs report the opposite: terriers, spaniels and other escape artists have found gaps more than once, and several parties ended up using a long training lead for the week. Which camp you fall into decides how the stay feels, so treat the boundary as a starting point rather than a guarantee.

Other reported issues are worth knowing. One guest found the grass left long enough to make clearing up after dogs difficult and flagged a leaking fuel tank in the garden as a hazard around dogs and children. Several mention the lounge seating is uncomfortable and there is little seating for a full party of six, and that the information pack could say much more about walks reachable on foot, because most routes here need the car.

Best suited to a group with several larger, settled dogs who want space, woodland, a hot tub and quiet, and who will bring a long line for anything inclined to wander.
