Quist Cottage is a big, rambling old house at the end of a lane in Hatch Beauchamp, and its main asset for anyone arriving with dogs is the garden: large, private, full of trees and bushes, and enough of a space that a group can let dogs mooch about all afternoon without leaving the property. Stone floors run through much of the ground floor, which sweeps clean after a wet walk. It earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.

One party had two dogs get out, one through a gap in the fence and one under the gate, and others describe the boundary as fine for a larger or steadier dog but not for a determined small one. The hotel next door also keeps peacocks that wander into the garden most days, which guests found charming with an easy-going dog and a problem with a terrier.
The other honest limitation is the walking. Guests looking for long off-lead country routes have been frustrated: stiles in the area are hard for dogs and have been found blocked or locked, and the one community field nearby asks for dogs on leads. Most people drive to walk properly, and the coast at Exmouth is a favourite day out. The cottage itself is old and characterful, and a few guests feel it is due some refreshing.
Best suited to a group or family with larger, settled dogs who want space, a garden and a village pub within walking distance, and who are happy to drive for a proper walk.
