Red Squirrel Pod with Hot Tub, Oban

Red Squirrel Pod is a hot tub pod in private grounds at Glencruitten, in the hills above Oban, and it is about as easy a stay as a dog owner gets in Argyll. Dogs are allowed for a fixed 25 pounds per dog per stay, and the owners ask to be told in advance if one is coming. That is a clear, cheap, honestly stated arrangement, and it is unusual enough to be worth flagging: most pods this size either refuse dogs outright or charge per night. Being told the number up front also means no awkward conversation at the door.

What guests describe most often is how well prepared the pod is when they arrive: the heating already on, treats waiting, a hot tub ready to use, and small touches like binoculars for watching the birds. The layout is genuinely clever for the footprint, so two people and a dog do not spend the week climbing over each other. Guests travelling with dogs describe the setting as the point of the place, with stunning walks and wildlife, close enough to town to be practical but remote enough to feel like an escape.

The honest caveats are about format rather than fault. A pod is a pod, so storage is limited and a very large or very muddy dog will test the space. There is a hot tub, which means keeping a curious dog away from it. And the grounds are shared with the other pods on the site, so a reactive dog will meet neighbours.
