Pet-friendly summary

Rhos Y Foel Cottage is a single-storey cottage in the middle of the Llyn Peninsula, a few miles inland from Nefyn and about the same from Pwllheli, and it is one of the better dog-proofed self-catering places in this part of North Wales. Everything is on one level, the rear garden is enclosed, and the whole thing looks out at the Eryri mountains. It earns a 4.9/5 paw rating.

Up to two pets are welcome per booking. The booking listing does not flag a pet supplement, so check the current terms with the owners when you reserve.

The garden is what dog owners talk about most. It is enclosed, level and directly off the open-plan living space through bifold doors, so a dog can come and go while you are cooking or sitting in the hot tub, and there are horses in the field behind that most dogs find endlessly interesting. The owners have opened up an adjoining field for guests who needed more running room. The lanes round about are quiet enough to walk a dog on, and the beaches at Nefyn and Morfa Nefyn are a short drive.

The welcome is warm and low-key: a hamper, an information book with walk and beach suggestions, and owners who say hello and then leave you to it. Being all on one level also makes it a sensible choice for an older or arthritic dog.

One caveat is worth taking seriously. The enclosure works for most dogs but it is not absolute: the garden is on the small side, the front of the property is more open than the back, and owners of small dogs have found the boundary did not hold them. Walk it yourself before letting a small dog off lead. Separately, the wet-room floor is very slippery when wet, which matters if you are drying a dog in there.

Best suited to owners of one or two settled dogs who want a quiet, level base with a secure garden, a hot tub and the Llyn beaches within easy reach.
