Riverscape Northumberland

Riverscape Northumberland is a holiday chalet on Sandy Bay, just south of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, and its main draw for anyone travelling with a dog is the gated wrap-around decking. That is a rare thing on a caravan park: an enclosed outdoor space attached to the unit itself, with a river and sea view from it, so a dog can be let out first thing without a lead and without leaving the pitch.

The beach is genuinely close, and it is the reason to come. Guests with dogs describe walking straight down to the river mouth and the shore, and the coastal path into Newbiggin takes somewhere between half an hour and forty-five minutes on foot. Inside, the chalet is well equipped for a wet Northumberland week, with an electric fire, streaming, board games and a proper kitchen, and the owners are quick to answer messages.

The consistent complaint is cleanliness, and it is fair to state it plainly because it recurs and because it is directly connected to the dogs. Guests have reported dog hair left on cushions, throws and floors between stays, and several accounts describe soft furnishings in the living room smelling strongly of dog. The same accounts flag broader wear: a broken lounge blind, heating that struggled in the living area, tired towels and stained fittings. There is no vacuum in the unit, which would fix half of it. Anyone especially sensitive to that should book elsewhere, and anyone bringing a dog should expect a place that feels lived in by other dogs.

Two more park notes. The pool and entertainment are charged separately, which is poor value on a short stay, and the on-site food is not rated. There is no parking directly beside the unit, and dogs on neighbouring pitches have been noted as noisy.

No additional pet charge has been reported by guests, though that is a guest observation rather than a published policy, so confirm it when booking. Best suited to dog owners who want an enclosed deck and a beach two minutes away, and who will forgive tired decor to get them.
