How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 57 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.9/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: September 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Rollestone is a large house at Redlynch, on the Wiltshire edge of the New Forest, and its appeal for dog owners is simple: open forest is more or less where the garden ends. Guests arriving with dogs describe it as genuinely dog-friendly rather than dog-tolerant, and the ground floor is laid out so a big party and its dogs can spread out without falling over each other.
The house is spacious and well proportioned, with a garden that opens onto a long view across the valley and a terrace that gets used in any weather people can stand. Families have stayed here with six adults, small children and dogs and found the layout worked for all of them. There is a hot tub in the garden, a corner shop at the end of the road stocked for the essentials, and two pubs within an easy walk. It earns a 4.5/5 paw rating from guests who brought dogs.
Walking is the reason to come. Open forest tracks are on the doorstep and the surrounding lanes are quiet enough for a relaxed lead walk before breakfast. Ponies and other livestock roam freely across much of the New Forest, so dogs need to be under close control once you are off the property.
A few things to know. The hot tub carries an extra charge that is not always clear at booking, and guests have been caught out by it. Cats roam freely around the property, which is worth knowing if your dog reacts to them. Bin arrangements have also caught people out, with no instructions left about collection days.
Best suited to a group or extended family with dogs who want forest walking from the door, plenty of indoor space and a garden with a view, and who will check the hot tub charge before booking.
